Aim of the course is to provide an easy introduction to statistics and statistical terminology through a series of practical applications. Once you've completed this four-week on-line interactive course you'll be able to summarize data, interpret reports and newspaper accounts that use statistics and probability, and review plans for surveys and experiments. Who Should Take This Course: Anyone who encounters statistics in their work or is responsible for teaching basic statistical concepts. This first course in statistics requires no prior training in the subject. The only mathematics you need is arithmetic. Software is provided. Organization of the Course - The course takes place over the Internet at statistics.com. Course participants will be given access to a private bulletin board, on which they will receive course materials. The board will also serve as a forum for discussion of ideas and problem solving. Resampling Stats software is provided for the duration of the course and you'll be given step-by-step instructions in its use. The course is scheduled to take place over four weeks. Demands on participants' time including software use and interaction with instructor are equivalent to four contact hours per week. To obtain course credit and a certificate of completion, all exercises must be completed. At the beginning of each week, participants receive the relevant material, in addition to answers to exercises from the previous session. During the week, participants are expected to go over the course materials and work through exercises. Discussion among participants is encouraged. He has given tutorials at the Joint Statistical Meetings (U.S.) and Deming Conference, lectured in Belgium, France, Holland, Ireland, and Spain, and was a traveling lecturer for the American Statistical Association.
