You might see if you could peek at a copy of
"Comprehending Behavioral Statistics" by Russel Hurlburt.
It is an introductory statistics text.

The book heavily emphasises teaching students how to eyeball
a problem in statistics and rapidly estimate the answer within
a handful of percentage points. There is supposed to be an
accessory software package called ESTAT, short for "estimating
statistics", that helps you learn to accurately make such
estimates but I've never seen the software package, and would
be interested if someone has an old copy that they are going
to toss out.

I don't know how successfully students learn this way but I
once thought I would try putting in the time and see how I
did. But high hopes and the best laid plans...
