There are lots of multivariate distributions; the problem
is essentially that there are "too many".

There are different versions of the multivariate t, the
most common of which is a multivariate normal divided by
a normalized chi.  The Dirichlet distribution is a 
multivariate Beta.  The Wishart distribution is a 
multivariate chi-squared.  The multinomial distribution
generalizes the binomial.  

But none of these have the independence properties of 
multivariate normal.
