Take a look at research done in the 1970s at the Institute for Mathematical Studies in the Social Sciences (a Stanford University research institute). They did a lot of strong work on keeping the student at 80% correct in several kinds of subject areas. The learning rate they found on those systems was substantially greater than one grade-level per year without extra contact hours.
