I had the same problem Tina Russell was having. I solved it by going into Ubuntu Classic (no effects) im using ubuntu 11.04 Natty my tablet was a bamboo pen CTL-460 latest version of gimp and followed the guide to set up the tablet that was here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11325831
