to make it easier to track it down, enable the root account * in your
chroot, then you are able to login at the console on your client and
read /var/log/ldm.log, it should give you a hint whats wrong

* just run sudo chroot /opt/ltsp/i386 and then just set a root password
with passwd (disable it with passwd -l later again)
