Hi Jan, I'm also very interested in an Edubuntu Linux for universities and academic use. I hope they will adopt a "meta-package" system allowing customized versions of Edubuntu, so that you can pick and choose only what you actually need. Someone mentioned the use of empty packages to install specific software applications, but I don't know if it's already in use (haven't had much time to look into it, admittedly).
