If he means you can't authenticate linux (or edubuntu) users via active
directory, he's mistaken.  Although "integration with AD" could mean many
different things.

An initial google search suggests this may be an issue with Kerberos config:

At this distance, I don't know if that is the answer to your problem, but
it's worth a try.

I'd worry for you a little, if an external person with no linux knowledge
and less inclination has to do the setup work and he doesn't really want to,
you may have some troubles.

Presuming their AD setup is working, you probably just need to get your
server joined up onto the domain and tweak a few things locally to get the
authentication working.  That would only involve root access on the local
machine, except that an AD domain admin is required to join your machine to
the domain.  Once that's completed correctly, you should probably be able to
work the rest out on your own.
