You should be able to write to the FAT partitions if you want to in Linux, if you want to make them read only add ro to the options column in the fstab file.

I just finished installation ubuntu 6.06 LTS. I have dual booting with my windows XP. But I can't mount my drive windows formatted. I just want read only my drive. But little question is how I mount my drive?

 
My partition like bellow :

1.    partition 1 dev/hda1 as FAT32 xpsystem

2.    partition 2 dev/hda2 

3.    partition 3 dev/hda3 linux

4.    partition 4 dev/hda4 linux

5.    partition 5 dev/hda5 as NTFS data

6.    partition 6 dev/hda6 as FAT32 data

7.    partition 7 dev/hda7 as FAT32 data

8.    partition 8 dev/hda8 as ext3 linux
