Although I can't offer any help based on your message I have a couple of
comments.

First, we need to know more specifics about your hardware. Off the top of my
head I'd say your video card is suspect.

Second, 5.10 is over a year old; I'd suggest getting 6.10 if you have access to
a broadband connection and a CD burner.

Third, re:flame-bait, don't worry about getting flamed, no excuses necessary.
You might want to read our community's Code of Conduct at
http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct as everyone on this list is bound to it.

Welcome to our world!

Subject: Just Installed but no-go

Installed 5.10 (free disk @ my favorite compstore). Does fine starting all the
various services (all say [OK]) then the screen goes blank-black. End of story.
No change overnight (incase it was thinking really hard about something or
doing some behind-the-scenes setup) I have no idea what to do next to find out
what is going on. anyone with advice, send it on! I may be doing some obvious
'flame-bait' mistake by this post or installation. Please excuse in advance.

Thanks
Jeff Hobson
