Yes, I would have suggested something like what you did with bootcfg,
followed by fixboot, then fixmbr.
However that will make Linux unbootable.
Also, using gParted, did you move the Windows partition? I've done that,
and it can really confuses Windows.

I'm no longer convinced that the problem is with windows at all... I
think GRUB is having issues. That is to say, the "handoff" between GRUB and
NTLDR is not taking place for some reason....
Any other suggestions?? Anyone else have any ideas? Again, this is a
brand new HP Pavilion Slimline PC with an install of Windows Media Center
Edition. Just one hard drive and Windows is on that hard drive first
primary partition. No mapping issues here...

Here's what I tried...
Results of BOOTCFG:

*then I - C:\WINDOWS>bootcfg /rebuild*
Add installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All): y
Enter Load Identifier: Boot Windows
Enter OS Load Options:
*then I - C:\WINDOWS>bootcfg /list*
Total entries in boot list: 2
[1] "Boot Windows"
OS Load Options:
OS Location: C:\WINDOWS
**
[2] "Windows XP Media Center Edition"
OS Load Options: /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

The windows command you are looking for is:
BOOTCFGUse this command for boot configuration and recovery. This command
has the following options: bootcfg /add
bootcfg /rebuild
bootcfg /scan
bootcfg /list
I would try scan, rebuild or add. Although, I have not done this in a
while. However this will most likely get rid of edubuntu or suse. You
might have to follow it up with fixboot or fixmbr. Again, it's been a while
since I've done this.
