If you launch the system monitor under system->administration you should be able to click on the "processes" tab to see what process is using the full cpu. Edgy is supported for another 11 months after which you will need to upgrade. Feisty does include a series of improvements. If the upgrade didn't work out well, it might still be worth installing feisty from scratch -- if you have time.
