Do you mean you can't login to the server without going to a text terminal?

So you rebuilt the thin client environment, which should have undone your
install of x11vnc.

1. Look at the output of the command  "df -h".  If you're out of disk
   space, gnome may be unable to start.

2. Look at the logs
        /var/log/syslog
        /var/log/auth.log
        /var/log/messages
        /home/<username>/.xsession-errors
   for messages telling you something is wrong.
