I have been working much with Student Control Panel. It looks like it has the potential to be as nice of an application as its predecessor (TeacherTool) with a few add-ons and bug fixes.
First I would love to see the VNC Viewing tackled so that it worked out of the box and the silly X11VNC is not installed error would go away (to me this is a critical feature that is needed to make the app useable, please focus any efforts here first). Second, in relation to scripting default printers by client location I would love to see a feature built in that allowed creation/building of groups. I know that currently it has the ability to group users, but we could really use a feature to build groups by mac address. If we could log in a lab of machines and simply select them from the left hand pane and create a new group called "High School Main Lab" for example, this would be a great start to easily implementing default printers based on location. At first it would be great to simply be able to write this list to a text file somewhere to be used with scripting called by ldm. In the future it would be awesome if Student Control Panel could advance enough to where it was able to let you select previously created groups, create their printers, and assign group defaults. If SCP is not the proper place for this, of if it would be too hard to implement, maybe the new LTSP Manager would be the place to implement this? http://people.ubuntu.com/~ogra/LTSPManager/ Jim Kronebusch Cotter Tech Department 453-5188 -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by the Cotter Technology Department, and is believed to be clean. -- edubuntu-users mailing list [email protected] Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/edubuntu-users
