Ok....that didn't work, but I have eliminated some stuff. First of all, it works fine on my stock Ubuntu Feisty installation on the laptop I use for travelling (the old Dell I brought to UDS with me). So...I tried some things on my school Edubuntu (workstations)....nothing worked. I decided to do a clean workstation install....just the workstation install and then an apt-get upgrade....then without adding any additional software I installed the FirstClass client....and again....nothing. So....it seems to be an Edubuntu specific issue. The issue is that anything that uses the QT internal method for printing....I tried both the FC client and another program called QTodo (qtodo...a small QT todo program...you can apt-get it from Debian repos) I'd be happy to try a few other QT based programs if anyone has suggestions for ones I might try. The problem is that when I go to print....none of the installed printers are available to the program. There is nothing in the printer window. I AM able to print to a file (.ps), but there are no printers....yet there are printers installed in the system as every other application (that I've tried) like OpenOffice...etc. works fine. I tried running strace to see if anything popped out at me, but I couldn't make sense out of most of it. I even tried comparing "straces" from both the Edubuntu machines and my "working" laptop. Although it's not urgent....it's very annoying and I could really use some help. :-) Suggestions on what to try? Data I can collect for you? Ideas? David N.
