Because a great many people really appreciate it. We just aren't very good about saying so. Being one who is guilty of that, let me take the opportunity to say "thanks". I look forward to each release and the improvements they bring, but I also enjoy the fact that I have a wonderful and free (in every sense of the word) OS. I will point out that it seems no good deed goes unpunished. I get lots of flack for the edubuntu lab I've set up and no thanks at all for the fact that we even have a lab and the time and effort I and some volunteers put in to setting it up.
