Indeed, you can't boot the amd64 image on i386 clients.
You should be able to create it using
sudo ltsp-build-client --arch i386
and you will then need to modify /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf to change the boot
images from amd64 ones to i386 ones. Then you must restart the dhcp server
sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart

That may still cause problems, but the above needs fixing first.
