Installing OpenBSD or some other OS will give you the option to redo the boot loader, especially OpenBSD as it uses a different disk layout. If you want to continue using Ubuntu, solving this kind of problem is probably best solved in-person. You are understandably frustrated given the circumstances. And the lag from e-mail will probably frustrate you only more. Your best bet is to find a local LoCo or LUG and brainstorm with someone with a bit of Linux expertise. However, if you still want to pursue the e-mail route, can you tell us a bit about your hardware? What kind of machine? How many drives? What kind of drives? What version of Ubuntu?
