Ok - my bad, sorry for the confusion.. it's not specific to Edubuntu. I'm doing some updates right now but whenever the VM boots up at all the system hard-locks. Only tried "Ubuntu 64-bit" and "Linux 64-bit" so far, will try regular dists too. I have the feeling it's got something to do with initializing my DVD drive. It's weird that this is only with new VMs, existing VMs boot up just fine (which I actually created under 9.04).. Suspecting maybe a VBox bug (using 3.0.8-dfsg-1ubuntu1). Very similar symptoms to here: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19780&start=0 - although the very first time I tried, it actually got to the grub menu and crashed after that. :/ I'll keep poking around. Thanks for the help!
