Hi Scott, FWIW, when I used thin clients (only use local and fat now) I rarely had a problem with the server--only when it got overwhelmed by Java-based programs, and that was way back in Edubuntu 8.0.4. If redundancy in service is the big concern, I wouldn't worry about it--though don't know other peoples experiences.
