This is a strange issue to me. In case it matters, I am using gnome classic (no effects) ... e.g. gnome-fallback because it seems to be less resource intensive and we have a lot of users. When I log in at the console, my login name appears in the notification at upper left on top panel. e.g. Sound icon, date, login name, gear for other options. I can click on my name and get the switch user option.
However, if I login at a thin client, my login name no longer appears. The teachers would like to have the login name appear so they know the account being used by the students at a glance (should be the student's account but who knows) I've looked at ubuntu-tweak and the setting is checked to display the name. I also tried setting the variable via gsettings. e.g. gsettings set com.canonical.indicator.session show-real-name-on-panel true indicator-applet-complete, indicator-applet and indicator-applet-session are all installed. However, I have not been able to get the login/username to appear. How is this done with 12.04 and gnome-fallback? and Sincerely, Dave Hopkins
