La rencontre aura lieu à 14h, en salle 2, au RDC du bâtiment principal du Collège de France (11 place Marcelin Berthelot, 75005 Paris). Dans sa conférence, Catherine Elgin présentera ses travaux récents en épistémologie, et en particulier son dernier ouvrage, *True Enough *(2017, MIT Press). Voici un bref descriptif de sa présentation : *True Enough* *C.Z. Elgin* *Abstract : *Contemporary analytic philosophy valorizes truth, insisting that only true propositions are cognitively acceptable. Science relies on models and idealizations that are known to be false. Nevertheless, no one would deny that the fruits of our best science are cognitively acceptable. In *True Enough*, I develop and argue for a reorientation of epistemology that resolves this conundrum. It focuses on understanding of topics or subject matters rather than on knowledge of individual truths, recognizes how epistemically felicitous falsehoods contribute to understanding, and divorces epistemic norms from truth-conduciveness. I will sketch my revision and show that an epistemology that does justice to the cognitive contributions of science has the resources to recognize and account for the cognitive contributions of art.
