Is it using swap? Linux tends to cache and buffer a lot of memory and Both
SQUID and SNORT [the IDS] and memory hungry so if you are not using much swap
do not worry about it.

Use "free" to see you levels

[EMAIL PROTECTED] zoneinfo]$ free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 775648 397388 378260 0 20964 223176
-/+ buffers/cache: 153248 622400
Swap: 262136 0 262136

See my desktop has used 378M but 223M is cached.
