I dont think its DMA, because some servers has SCSI disk, or Endian try to enable DMA anyway?
Maybe it could be freshclam, at my site we have a modem (ADSL) connection that is not getting up at boot time.
And the other server has a direct connection with the router to the internet.

The bootup messages show nothing, exist any way to print out more debug information?

no, no reverse lookups. some services try to connect to the outside
(freshclam for example) and wait for a timeout. but i assume you have a
working uplink.

i think, as already mentioned here, your problem is dma-related. try to
follow the messages during the boot, if you have a dma problem, the
kernel prints out warning messages.

next, it would be interesting to know where exactly the boot process
hangs. so we can easier eliminate possibilities
