AS well as all the details you have specified.. it may be worth checking the useragent that is logged on the proxy when messenger is running. I have noticed that Live Messenger is identified in the var/log/squid/useragent.log, but haven;t tried This will only work if you are using the proxy in non-transparent mode (which Iwould assume you are). This would mean that you would have to define all your useragents and if using authentication, put trusted users into the extended authentication group on Endian.. May be worth having a look.
