Using other cables didn't make a difference. One thing that I should have
mentioned was that the card was an Airnet:(
I replaced it with a Zonet gigabit card (I would usually put them on the same
level as Airnet) which used the exact same driver but it had no issues. I
booted it back up with no configuration changes and it's worked ever since (a
few weeks now).
I don't remember where I got the Airnet card, but it was only $10 about a year
ago. NewEgg now has them for that much (plus $5 for shipping:() and it's got
decent reviews. If I'd have bought it from NewEgg, I would have definitely
asked for a replacement.

I had the same problem with a Belkin 5 port Gb switch. I had originally tried
EFW 2.0, but was having troubles getting the drivers to work (I thought). Once I
switched to EFW 2.1, there was better support for the card, but I was still
having the same connectivity issue. I tried resetting the switch and that did
not work.
What did work was swapping the cable at the switch with that of another system
that was working. That cleared up the issue and allowed me to use the NIC. I
suspect there is an issue in the 8169 driver, but have not pursued it.
Hopefully one of the folks better versed in networking or drivers can answer the
question more completely, but try swapping the cable with that of another Gb
system that is functioning correctly.

Bob K
