Appliances like efw rely on the drivers and hardware support of the OS they were made from. Often, there are either no drivers, or the drivers don't work well - it varies widely. IMO, this is a weak area for linux.
I like and use Realtek nics, and have them installed on a couple of efw production servers with no troubles. I also use clonezilla to backup windows PCs, and Ive seen it have problems with some built-in Realtek nics, but then work fine on other Realtek nics. Realtek does have drivers available online, but I don't remember which OS efw runs on, so I don't know if they'll install. Sometimes, at least for me, it's easier to switch to hardware the OS likes. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Elmar Natter Sent: Wednesday, August 13, 2008 7:25 AM To: efw-user@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: [Efw-user] Problems with Realtek NICs I think endian has an serious issue with Realtek NICs. On 2.1.2 I had the problem that if any 100 or 1000 MBit Realtek NIC was in the system, installation runs flawless, but after configuring NICs are no longer responding. I solved the whole thing by using intel or 3com nics. which cause no problems. So now I got the "little falls" DG945GCLF Atom Board from intel, which is perfect for an endian router (in my option), but it has RTL8101E Chipset. As I thougth, results are frustrating: 2.1.2 installes well, but the onboard nic (RTL8101E) is not recognized, secondary nic in PCI (intel 100 MBit) runs perfect 2.2 RC2 installes also well, realtek nic is recognized, but the behaviour is pretty much like the old 2.1.2 problem. After installation NO nic responds in the given IP. If I disable the onboard-Realtek-NIC, everythings fine. Besides the fact, that a router with only one nic doesn't make sense.
