Sometimes people are busy. Someone on the mailing list may still be able to 
help when they have time. 
 
I've installed efw on many machines and it tends to just work. I can't help but 
think you might have some sort of hardware issues. 
 
I always run memtest86+ and test the drive(s) with spinrite to make sure the 
server has no hidden problems. 
 
I also open the case and check the motherboard and the PSU for bad capacitors, 
which is a very common problem.
 
Then there's always the nics, which can have various problems. 
 
And while it's true that those packages are rolled into efw, checking their 
logs and learning how to start and stop the services might lead to the 
discovery of the problem.

Yes, DNS Proxy is not enabled. I tried looking it up in EFW docs and it is not 
listed. 

I will try google to see what is going on with squid and dansguardian. However, 
I must admit I'm a bit pessimistic since both packages are rolled into EFW and 
not stand alone. Sometimes people don't want to help in situations like these.
