I haven't tried 2.2final yet, but 2.2rc3 lacked the hiddev
support used by both apcupsd and NUT to talk to UPSes via
usb. I wasn't able to get either of them to work with 2.2rc3.

Also, the 2.2rc3 source packages were incomplete and so you
couldn't re-compile the kernel from the source rpms (neither
"as is" kernel nor kernel with hiddev support).

I've downloaded the new 2.2final stuff but I simply haven't
had a chance to work with it yet -- and unfortunately won't
until later this month.

The key questions are:
(1) does 2.2final have hiddev support out of the box?
(2) if not, does the kernel source rpm(s) have what is
needed to re-compile a kernel with hiddev support.

If the answer to either is yes, both NUT and apcupsd should
build in a straightforward way and work with minimal changes.
