hi

maybe we should put a hint to all (new) users

endian is a linux distribution compiled for stability, not for supporting
the "newest" hardware.

security-updates are backported by upstream
means:
you might think you have an "old" kernel but this one is security-fixed
("backported") just to keep the same number in kernel & apps

but:
NEW hardware (NICs etc) won't work unless that new hardware is using the
same "old" drivers/modules as already present in kernel

if you have new hardware you want your endian to work with:
ask the manufacturer to provide some input to the lkml & sources & maybe
RHEL

then:
is this "onboard-very-cheap-but-somehow-works-with-Mx"-card intended to work
in an enterprise environment?

if not - i expect you pay 30 buck or more to buy a "working card"

plz don't ask why endian, we or anybody else will/will not support
xyzxyz-cards/hardware/protocolls on linux (or this distrib)

endian is meant to be used in an enterprise

your home might be your castle - but the security of your castle has some
expectations on hardware
(endian is producing for enterprise-level -- not home user's)

Recomendation:
every NIC which was known to work in (NOW - 3 years) should make it
Why 3 years?
That's just an other rec.
But these modules are known to work quite good and are for sure either
backported or already implemented in the current kernel.

Greets

Mike
