I realize that this is not a political group and that I will probably be
flamed for making a political comment in this group but this is an issue that
affects us all. So go ahead and flame me. ;-) It will be interesting to see
if Sun censors this post. Thank you very much Seerangan for posting this
article. If you think that because you are a U.S. citizen or a green card
holder that this doesn't affect you, you are quite wrong. The introduction of
more high-tech "braceros" is bad for all working engineers foreign born and
native born, H1-B and permanent resident. If the American high tech industry
really feared a shortage they would be lobbying for a green card program
instead of a higher ceiling on the H1-B program. What American high tech really
fears is a free market in engineering labor. Industry has to be made to see
that they can't have it both ways: either free markets are for everyone or they
shall surely be for no one. This is a matter not just of concern for our
foreign born colleagues but self-interest as well. Altruism and self-interest
are an unbeatable combination, those who would lobby for increased H1-B
ceilings would do well to remember that. ;-)

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the
dark of night. And if you go no one may follow. That path is
for your steps alone.
