Openwings Call For Experts The Openwings Component Services Specification Request has been approved. The Call for Experts (CAFÉ) will be open through Feb 16, 2001. Here is a short description of this service: The charter for the Component Services Expert team is to develop a component framework that will provide the ability to provide, locate and use services, without being dependent on any specific service location/lookup mechanisms. Initial implementations will be based on Sun's Jini technology, but will be flexible enough to move to other lookup/discovery services (including UDDI and Bluetooth Service Discovery Protocol (SDP)). This component model abstraction provides the ability to publish and use asynchronous (message based) or synchronous (rmi based) services. Though this model is designed for a distributed computing environment, the same mechanisms can be used internally in a JVM for inter-thread service discovery and communication.
