I think (my own opinion here) that the idea of EJBs is not to atomically
provide better versions of all the things you are looking for. That's not the
point. EJBs are not about being appllication servers.
EJBs are about allowing you to write a server-side component, like a
shopping cart component, and plugging it into a larger system. That alrger
system is responsible for lots of things that your component needs, like
conection pooling, transaction management and sof forth. NOw, I don't need EJBs
or components to have a shopping cart server-sdie program with all that stuff.
I could take the next threee yeas and write it myself.
Or, I can write my EJB component, and find a container-server combo that
provides all the supporting services that I want. AN EJB by itself is not going
to do that. A feature-rich container-server combon will provide those features
for server-side components. Co apring EJBs to app servers is comparing apples
to oranges. An EJB server is nto per se a an app server . it's a collectin of
server0side components with more or less features depending upon the vendor an
damount of money you wish to spend.
