I liked Va also but dropped it now in favor of JBuilder, because:

- I can add any java-vm I want - with VA I have to stick to 1.1
- I can add any updated java-API - with VA I have to stick to the
classes with were supplied with the JDK-version in VA
- VA generates a wrong manifest-file when exporting an EJB into a
jar-file
- I did not succed getting the CMP entiy EJB to work, because there were
some problems when using DB2 (and neither on the VA nor DB2 newgroup
anybode (from IBM) wanted to help me)
- sometime the debugger messes his display up - you vcan't see anything
except many empty overlapping windows
- I like the repository-based system, but you have to import every class
whixh you want to use during developping and you get into trouble if
that doesn't work (p.ex. when trying to import Gemstone/J clients jars -
VA doesn't seam to be able to handle inner classes correctly (similar
problem when exporting)
- a couple of times the repository crashed or was corrupt (p.ex. after a
system crash or power fail), but as far as I remember VA succeded each
time rebuilding it - but always takes a couple of tens minutes
- it very difficult to find out which updates have to be installed and
which update includes which bugfixes

hopefully VA 3 will come out soon und will be better (it's allways the
same (not only at IBM): waiting for the next release/update ... which is
hopefully better)

my 2 cents, Sven
