Most "freeware" or open-source EJB products that I have seen, either lack
support for Entity beans, Container Managed Persistence, transactions or
some
combination. Right now, I would say that JOnAS is the most complete in terms
of features. Almost all are unusually poorly documented and many don't even
have example source.

Remember: OpenSource does *not* always mean *free*. Be sure to read the
deployment license.

I apologise if I get the eval/license incorrect. If I couldn't find out how
to get an eval, or if it required contacting a sales rep, I indicated "no
eval". Below is a list of the EJB containers that I know about:

AnEJB (freeware)

BEA WebLogic Server (30-day eval)

Bluestone Saphire Web (no eval?)

EJBoss (open source)

Forte SynerJ (no eval)

Gemstone/J (no eval)

Inprise Application Server - EJB in Pre-Beta

JOnAS: JavaTM Open Application Server (open source)

ObjectSpace: Voyager (30-day eval)

NetDynamics - Sun (salesman)

Proton: EJB Server (30-day eval)

Secant Extreme Enterprise Server (salesman)

Valto Ejipt (30-day eval)

XS Server (freeware)

These are listed at Sun's Site as EJB Supporters. Not sure where they stand
now:
Fujitsu Interstage, BROKAT Twister, Information Builder Parlay, Novera,
Oracle Application Server, HahtSite, Apptivity, Siemens openUTM, and Vision
Jade.
