If the bean uses BMP (Bean managed persistence) it's no problem at all.
You can write the JDBC code yourself, or use an ORM (Object to Relational
Mapping tool, see below).

Some CMP (Container managed persistence) containers can do it as well, e.g.
Cocobase from Thought Inc. or TOPLink from The Object People.
Personally I prefer Cocobase. Cocobase does both CMP and BMP, though I
haven't
seen the CMP yet. Their BMP is very easy to use.
