here's my understanding:
entity beans in principle can represent anything that somehow is
persistent. where and how it is persisteted is a different thing.
this can be anything from a sql database in which case the bean relates to
one or more rows and tables, and which probably is the most common used
case. it also can be an object database. Or a text file. Or something in a
ERP or other mainframe/backend system.
