Answers depend on the EJB server. Even though an EJB server essentially is a
TP monitor, some EJB servers don't really have one. GemStone/J answers

Depends on the configuration of the underlying database. Some do row locks
automatically, some do row locks based on isolation level settings of the
JDBC connection, some do row locks based on the syntax of select statements
"select X from Y for update of Z"...
