No, set and unset are *not* called in relation to passivation.

javax.naming.InitialContext is not serializable. Therefore you will have to
get a reference to it in setXXXContext() *and* ejbActivate().

I believe this is accurate. Can anyone think of other situations when this
wouldn't suffice?
