Is that because EJB does something magical to your CPU, or just becuase
you're using a connection pool + object cache in EJB and were not using
it with Servlets?

Try using an O/R mapping product that can take advantage of the
connection pool and has an internal cache, and most likely you will
scale to 400/500 concurrent users by eliminating the remote method
overhead.

But all that doesn't mean you shouldn't use EJB, it just means for some
stuff you can get better performance without using EJB.
