Extending your argument, one might wonder why we are not using SMTP to carry
Web documents even though millions of users are using it every day and are very
happy with it.
The answer your question is : IIOP was designed for CORBA, not EJB. I don't
think Rickard ever questioned the adequacy of IIOP for CORBA objects. He made
compelling points explaining why we would be better off solving this issue at
the API level instead of at protocol level, and he also hinted at possible
implementations to back up his ideas. All the elements are there to generate an
interesting and technical discussion, hopefully for the good of both the EJB
and CORBA communities. Please, let's keep the debate at this level.
