Lakshmi,
The 1.0 EJB spec used .ser files for deploying EJBs. These are
instanciated
classes written to an object stream (file). They represent data
(deployment
attributes).
Jar files are not comparable because Jar is essentially an archive
format
for Java classes (not objects). The EJB 1.1 spec now asks for an XML
deployment descriptor thus replacing the data in the .ser file by a more
"readable" format.
EJB 1.0 DD: .ser file
EJB 1.1 DD: .jar file + XML file
