Java IO is always out of bounds for EJB. It is not a question of whether
the spec allows it - the Java IO libraries circumvent many of the
requirements for an enterprise system (resource management, TXs,
security etc). You should be avoiding this in your components as far as
possible. You may want to check the archives for (exhaustive) discussion
of this.

Incidentally, many containers will let you violate this to read/write as
you wish.
