I'm just more curious from a word-origin standpoint. When did it become
cool in, e.g., India (or really anywhere) to write words using numbers?
Note that I'm not attacking anyone (I personally can't stand it, but
that's not my point), I'm just curious about the pseudo-etymology
involved. Was it popularized in a book? In a chat room? Can some1 out
there who actually writes in this way give some anecdotes (offline if
necessary to return this list to its regularly scheduled topic)?

Cheers,
Laird
