Yes, that's true, deployment is vendor specific.

Another suggestion, there is another book by O'reily - something like Jva
Enterprise in Nutshell.
If you read RMI chapter, you will find an answer to your question.

Sams book - no, I didn't see it. Probably I will take a look.
