In general, pooling refers to stateless objects (which can be considered
identical). So, for stateless session beans I would pool the remote
references. For stateful session beans and entity beans I would pool the
home interfaces.

There are, of course, no passivation issues with stateless references or
home interfaces.

(Note that EJB containers _are_ able to pool stateful objects by swapping
out their state)
