Oracle 8i has built in JVM (JServer) and a web server.
As far as I know you can deploy your ejbs to 8i. So it acts like an app.
server.
8i seems to be a database,web-server and appication server all together.
In my opinion this may be a configuration only for projects with small
budget and low load .
And Oracle now has BC4J (business component for java) which handles the
object relational mapping and entity bean concepts. BC4Js are proprietary
EJB like components that you can only deploy to oracle app. servers and
databases.
JDeveloper can generate code for both BC4J and standard session beans.
