<VENDOR>

Within EAServer's distribution we provide an object to encapsulate a result
set of data which is fully described in IDL, called a
TabularResults::ResultSet to handle returning Result Sets without having to
create your own objects to simply marshall tabular data.

</VENDOR>

Now with that said, we are investigating releasing the IDL and conversion
routines FROM a java.sql.ResultSet and TO a java.sql.ResultSet in open
source. The implementation is in IDL so it can be marshalled via IIOP. As
well, since CORBA 2.3 stubs are all serializable it is also marshallable via
RMI and RMI/IIOP. Even cooler is that for an RMI/IIOP implementation it can
be sent as the IDL type meaning no overhead to serialize the data first.

So basically:

database --> jdbc --> ejb converts to IDL type --> IIOP ---> client converts
back to result set ---> java.sql.ResultSet

I have one of the guys on my team moving the conversion routines so we can
release them as open source. At this point we'll likely provide them As-Is
with support via our newsgroups. We should only need a few weeks. We just
want to tune one or two places before we release the conversion routines.

Would folks be interested in this?
