Likewise, if you have a front-end intensive application, it is easier to scale the web servers with the session info stored in the back-end. This would reduce the cost of load balancing in the front end also, since a dumb round-robin load distributor could work instead of a sophisticated session-aware load balancer. IMHO, this is the more likely scenario. Of the many (two !) analyses of front/back statistics I've seen, they suggested a ratio of 8:1 web server requests to each database request. But as Andy says, no answer will fit all. > -----Original Message----- > From: Andy Grove [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Friday, September 22, 2000 11:49 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: HTTPSession+ Stateless Session Beans OR Stateful Session > Beans > > > Obviously this is not a 'one answer fits all' question and it > very much > depends > on the physical deployment you are aiming for and the > charistics of the app. > > One advantage of using the HTTP session to look after state and using > stateless > session beans is that it makes it easier to have a cluster of > EJB servers at > the > back end if you want to be able to scale up.
