There is nothing inherint in IIOP like a keep alive.  The TCP stack has
TCP_KEEPALIVE which will ping the client end of the socket with a keep alive
packet, this allowing the server side to detect half-dead sockets.  Some
containers will prvoide ways to pool and time out IIOP sockets.

For instance when using EAServer you can time sockets out for the client by
number of method calls made, or idl time.
